Mission & Metrics: Finance Training for Federal Credit Program Professionals

By

On July 11-12, GCFP presented Mission & Metrics: Finance Training for Federal Credit Program Professionals to more than 50 executives from U.S. agencies engaged in governmental lending activities. Participants included staff from the following agencies:

  • Department of Agriculture
  • Department of Housing & Urban Development
  • Export-Import Bank
  • Department of Commerce
  • Department of Education
  • Department of the Treasury
  • Congressional Research Service
  • Small Business Administration
  • Department of Transportation
  • Department of Energy
  • Department of Veterans Affairs

The U.S. government’s large and growing loan portfolio – which has tripled in size since 2008 – highlights the need for program managers to have a deeper understanding of the financial principles at play in running what has become the world’s largest financial institution. The course – taught by Deborah Lucas, Doug Criscitello, and Charles Tansey – is designed to enhance understanding on a range of topics necessary to design and operate government credit programs efficiently.

The program was made possible by a generous gift of Mary and Warren Naphtal to the GCFP Naphtal Education Initiative Fund. In addition, the IBM Center for The Business of Government served as host for the event and generously contributed its facilities and staff to make the event successful.
